Qualifications Performs direct patient care under the direct
supervision of a licensed nurse. Maintains a safe patient care
environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities that foster the
goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statements. When
functioning as a Tech First Assistant (Tech III), I demonstrated
knowledge of surgical assisting and closure. What you will do in
this role: Demonstrates knowledge of applying surgical gloves using
aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field. Demonstrates
knowledge of preparing for surgery by “pulling” the appropriate
supplies and instruments for the procedure. Understands and
recognizes the different surgical instruments and their
applications. Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and
Physiology in order to prepare and assist in surgical procedures.
Maintains a safe sterile field by: a – positioning sharps correctly
b – labeling all medications on sterile field c – understanding of
electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent
possible fires in the O.R. d – Participating in a “timeout” with
rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety. Demonstrates
ability to appropriately set up for a surgical procedure and follow
protocol in the counting of supplies/instruments to ensure no
foreign object is left inside of the patient. Understands the
principles of and can competently assist a surgeon during a
procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself.
Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their
applications. Demonstrates the ability to close a surgical site
(under physician supervision) with appropriate suture. Demonstrates
a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the
perioperative phase. Job Summary and Qualifications What You Will
Do In This Role: You will be assigned to the Operating Room to
assist physicians with instruments during the surgical procedure.
You will be responsible for meeting Standards of Practice, managing
supplies and equipment, and participate in maintaining proper
inventory on all instruments in the department. You will be
responsible for coordinating instrumentation and surgical supplies,
and assisting in surgical suite preparation for a variety of
surgical cases; including but not limited to trauma. You must have
knowledge of aseptic technique, sterile environments, instrument
care and handling. You will have the ability to work as a team
player and meet the needs of the surgical team. What qualifications
you will need: Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or
military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is
required. Certification in Surgical Technology or verifiable
Surgical Tech experience prior to 9/1/2009 is required. Current
BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required. 1
year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred. High School
Graduate / GED Corpus Christi Medical Center is a 630 bed
