Maintains records, establishes and monitors payment agreements with individuals to ensure court ordered financial obligations to the County are satisfied.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInclude the following. Processes defendants' applications to establish payment agreements for the collection of fines and court costs.Interviews defendants, verifies information on the applications, compiles all forms filled out by the defendants, and creates an individual collection file while maintaining and securing sensitive information.Enters data from the application and various court documents, utilizing the county's case management system(s).Maintains assigned collection files, enters payments/collection data, reviews and answers inquiries regarding defendants' case files.Monitors defendants' case files to ensure compliance with their payment agreements.Sends notices to defendants via telephone/automated dialer, and by mail when accounts have become past due or delinquent.Receives and processes payments made by cash, money orders, cashier's checks, credit cards, etc., and issues receipts.Balances receipts and reconciles daily. Completes a daily and monthly collections report.Disburses payments into the county's case management system(s). Interacts with Treasury to ensure proper disbursing and recording of fines and fees on monthly collection reports.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with county employees, officials, outside agencies, and the general public.Understand and interpret judgments, sentences, and court orders to apply rules, regulations, and appropriate statutory fines and court costs.Other duties and special projects may be assigned.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED), plus a minimum of one year of experience as a collections clerk or in a clerical position involving collections or handling cash, money orders, cashiers checks, etc. (Related business school training or college courses may be substituted, month-for-month, for up to six months of the required work experience.) Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, may be considered for current Nueces County employees only.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructions, while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other county employees, officials, and the general public.Demonstrate skills in establishing and maintaining simple records and files including organizing statistical or financial data for reports. Possess proper use of grammar and spelling skills, and able to proofread work for completeness and accuracy. Perform basic mathematical calculations using ten key by touch, and type accurately at a speed of at least 40 words per minute. Work effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional composure in a fast-paced work environment. Ability to operate a computer, utilize word processing and spreadsheet software, perform data entry including simultaneous use of multiple applications, and operate various office equipment, such as copiers, fax machines, and multi-line telephone systems. Understand and interpret court orders, judgments, and sentences to apply rules, regulations, and appropriate statutory fines and courts costs.
