Join our team today as a Hospice Chaplain to positively impact the experiences of our patients and families. --Position SummaryThe Chaplain/Spiritual Counselor is a hospice-trained individual who provides spiritual support to patients and the members of the family.-- S/he may be a priest, minister, rabbi or other individual with experience in spiritual support.-- The hospice Chaplain/Spiritual Counselor is not intended to replace the patient's own clergy, but to provide spiritual support and help. S/he is responsible for applying the rules and regulations of state and federal regulatory agencies and other certified agencies.The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, selecting, training, supervising, and retaining volunteers to adequately support volunteer operations and to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.-- He/she will ensure the coordination of patient and family needs for volunteer services and will oversee the development and implementation of the plan of care to meet those needs. S/he is responsible for applying the rules and regulations of state and federal regulatory agencies and other certified agencies.Principal Accountabilities - Chaplain/Spiritual CounselorSupports agency and corporate policies, goals, and objectives.----Promotes a positive working relationship between agency and corporate personnel.Attends and participates in staff meetings, educational programs and community events, as requested.Promotes hospice philosophy.Communicates identified needs and potential solutions to supervisor.Provides spiritual support in matters relating to patient and family care.Counsels in accordance with patient's and family's beliefs.Submits written reports of all contacts with the hospice patient and family, or of any volunteer activity, in a timely manner.Acts as liaison with the clerical community to interpret the needs of the hospice patient and family, and helps recruit clerical volunteers for the hospice.Supports the patient and family in working through the stages of death, grief, and bereavement.Maintains respect for the family's environment and belief systems, and remains nondiscriminatory regarding age, race, religion, sex, national origin, physical or mental disability, and other personal matters.Functions as a team member by attending interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing to the development of the Plan of Care, and participating in the in-service programs to keep informed about current information pertinent to the volunteer.Performs other duties as assigned.Principal Accountabilities - Volunteer CoordinatorPromotes the use of volunteers as an intervention to support patient care needs.Actively recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and retains volunteers to support the administrative and patient care needs of the program and Compassus.Ensures prospective volunteers are interviewed and complete all mandated background and health screenings prior to being offered a position as a volunteer.Performs initial and ongoing competency evaluations to verify training and support needs.Maintains records of all recruitment and retention activities.Maintains accurate record of volunteer utilization as a percentage of overall patient care hours as mandated by regulations.Provides education about volunteer services and role of the volunteer to members of the IDT.Prepares reports, in-services, and other documents to demonstrate the value and effectiveness of the volunteer program as requested.Utilizes a variety of means to communicate with and retain active volunteers, which may include:NewslettersEmail campaignsGatherings/ celebratory eventsMeetingsDelivers high quality training for new volunteers.Manages volunteer services through accountable awareness of volunteer utilization, documentation and plan of care involvement.Develops and performs public service announcements regarding hospice volunteerism.Performs other duties as assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDirectly supervises volunteers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training volunteers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining volunteers; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Education and/or ExperienceChaplain/Spiritual CounselorRequired: High school diploma or equivalent, 1 year of experience in the provision of spiritual/ pastoral support to individuals or families.Preferred: Degree in divinity, social sciences, or other related field; completion of at least one (1) unit of CPE; 1 or more years' experience in the provision of pastoral support to individuals/ families related to loss, grief, bereavement, or trauma.State-Specifics:Georgia: Documentation of ordination or commission by a recognized faith group; completed at least one unit of clinical pastoral education from a nationally recognized provider.Louisiana: Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree or training OR equivalent training from an accredited university OR equivalent experience with training/supervision in spiritual counseling from an individual who possesses required education.Missouri: Documentation of ordination or commission by a recognized faith group and has completed one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).Mississippi: Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree or training.Volunteer CoordinatorCandidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred. Experience in Social Services, Human Services, Resource Management or related field is helpful; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience managing volunteer services or non-profit organization is a plus.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.-- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, colleagues, investors, volunteers, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.Computer SkillsTo perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software.-- Previous experience in use of an electronic medical record is helpful.Other QualificationsStrong organizational, interpersonal, teaching, and time management skills. Creativity in preparing and making presentations. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends. Must be able to travel. Ability to provide own transportation. Understanding and acceptance of hospice philosophy. Must be of high integrity including maintenance of confidential information including all patient records. Clinical experience or training related to death, dying, and bereavement. Must be able to provide grief counseling to families and others in need.Certifications, Licenses and RegistrationsClinical Pastoral Education preferred or required per state regulation. A valid driver's license and auto liability insurance.Other Skills and AbilitiesAbility to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy. Strong skills in counseling the terminally ill and his/her family. A positive, compassionate, and empathetic attitude. Ability to counsel patient and family and assist local clergy in rendering pastoral care.
